Finally Got a Chance to Wear Some McQueen

You know when you're meeting up to plan a baby shower for your friends, you need to show up in style.

I met up with my friend Sarah K at Banana Bay tonight to plan a baby shower for our close friend.  When you're having a discussion about making flower centerpieces and gold dusted cupcakes over Thai food; it doesn't really hurt to inject a little bit of McQueen into your night.

I love the brilliant orange wall but it makes me look excessively pale.

This necklace from Target is kind of amazing.  I prefer to wear it double wrapped around my wrist to get the job done.

Kind of the worst possible photo-op ever (photo was taken in front of Joann Fabrics by my little sister) but it gets the job done.  If anyone is wondering why I was at Joann's; I was buying supplies in order to teach my mom how to sew.  I know, I know; I'm a big momma's boy but nothing makes me happier than teaching someone how to sew a perfectly straight hem :D.

Hello Monsieur Cupcake, Its Been Far Too Long....

I decided to go to Santa Monica with my friend Kristin today for a little bit of R&R.

I wanted to go for the whole monochromatic thing that I've been seeing on the Fall runways in Milan over the last few days.

Whole lot of R&R alright!  I drove almost a hundred miles all day, suffered through traffic, pigged out at SPRINKLES, and had lunch.  I love LA :D....It was all worth it as long as I came home with my precious little treasure.

I know I eat Sprinkles way too much but, I'm on vacation.  Sometimes you just need to treat yourself!

Balmain Spring-Summer 2011 Campaign featuring Clement Chabernaud

I came across this new ad campaign when I was doing the research for my perfect Christmas present a few days ago.  It features french supermodel Clement Chabernaud just lounging around a modernist home in insanely expensive Balmain RTW.  The campaign's a little intriguing because there's something very 50's-classic Americana about the styling that really draws me in but at the same time, the clothes are very current and punk.  I think I get a little more obsessed every time I go over the ads...

Selling Point: The Perfect Nylon Jacket

Over the last few years in men's fashion, it has become the case that strong synthetic fibers such as ripstop and tyvek have come to replace traditional fabrics like silk and wool in the luxury sector (see Louis Vuitton's show-stopping chinchilla and nylon vest below for an example).  Nowadays in this rush rush rush lifestyle, the real luxury of clothes lies in fabrics that are less resistant to tear than rock climbing cables (case and point, Balenciaga's last menswear collection that featured bulletproof fabrics, aptly named; Kevlar Light).  

One of the best pieces in my closet is a small nylon windbreaker from Alfani.  The thing that I love about it is that it's super light (seriously, it folds into the size of an envelope), but; when I'm wearing it, I can really feel how strong the seams are.  Believe me, this baby isn't going to be falling apart any time soon.  

As a little homage to one of the best basics that any fashion conscious guy can have, I'm going to show you guys a few examples of nylon jackets that are worth trading in your car for.

A couple of months ago, a friend of mine asked me to give him a suggestion about the one piece of clothing that he needed to have in his closet for fall.  I instantly recommended a nice nylon jacket.  Believe me; it's versatile, it's very slimming (if you buy a fitted one), and it's super easy to be casual but sharp at the same time.  So please go out and get yourself a nylon jacket if you don't already have one in your closet.
